The Bulgarian Voices Angelite  are coming to Cosmopolite.

The choir is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in European vocal music. “One of the most distinctive vocal groups in the world,” wrote Columbus Dispatch. Since their breakthrough in the late 1980s, they have toured internationally, developing a sound that brings together Bulgarian folk traditions, contemporary music, and sacred elements.

This is an ensemble with a truly unique sound – precise, raw, and deeply expressive. “Angelite is an amazing example of vocal virtuosity,” wrote The Scotsman. The songs are rooted in ancient traditions, yet shaped in dialogue with the present. Their repertoire spans traditional Balkan songs and newer compositions, including material from their latest recording of Orthodox church music from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Each region of Bulgaria has its own distinct vocal style, tied to rituals, seasons, and everyday life. Angelite carry these traditions forward while opening them up within new musical contexts. The result is an expression firmly rooted in tradition, yet clearly relevant today.
