Lizz Wright
When Lizz Wright last took the stage with us in 2025, the show was sold out – and the audience lingered long after the final note. Now, she returns.
With a voice that The New York Times has described as “a smooth, dark alto,” Wright has established herself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern American music. She moves effortlessly between jazz, soul, and gospel, with an expression that is both grounded and deeply moving.
Raised in Georgia, where her father was a pastor, Wright first encountered music in the church. The call-and-response with the congregation still shapes the way she sings today – intimate, direct, and with a strong connection to the audience.
Her breakthrough came early, with a touring tribute to Billie Holiday and her debut album Salt (2003), which topped the U.S. jazz charts. Since then, she has built an impressive catalogue, with releases including Dreaming Wide Awake, The Orchard, Fellowship, Freedom & Surrender, and Grace.
In recent years, Wright has taken full control of her artistry through her own record label, and with the album Shadow (2024), she reveals an even more stripped-down and personal side. Here, she explores themes of love, loss, and belonging, with a sound shaped by acoustic instruments and warm, organic arrangements.
As she now returns to Cosmopolite, everything is set for a new evening where artist and audience meet in the same space – close, honest, and without filter.
