Batzorig Vaanchig
Some concerts are about volume. Others are about presence.
On May 7, Batzorig Vaanchig comes to Cosmopolite with his solo format — alone with his instruments and his voice.
He plays the morin khuur (horse-head fiddle) and performs khöömii, Mongolian throat singing. Many have discovered him online in recent years — including through his interpretation of Chinggis Khaanii Magtaal — but something different happens in the room. The sound is physical. You hear the overtones move. You feel the wood of the instrument resonate.
Batzorig composed music for the Netflix series Marco Polo and has performed on stages around the world. Now we get to experience him the way this music is meant to be heard: up close, without filters.
On stage, he brings together:
– Mongolian praise songs (magtaal) and folk songs
– Original material
– Morin khuur, tovshuur, tsuur, and jaw harp
– Throat singing and his singing voice side by side
A rare opportunity to experience a living tradition carried forward in real time.
