Katia Guerreiro

With a warm, expressive and confident voice, 29-year-old Katia Guerreiro sings the fado of her homeland.

She sings about love and homesickness, about what the Portuguese call "saudade", about bittersweet melancholy and nostalgia. This while the guitars follow her in soft melodies, whether she whispers her secrets or sings with full force.

The debut album "Fado Maior" made a strong impression and made both critics and the audience listen once more. Now she is up to date with a new album:

"Tudo ou Nada".

Her way of combining traditional elements with modern expressions attracts attention and Katia has become a prominent representative of the new fadon.

Fado has a long history with roots in Portugal's history as a seafaring nation, which is felt both in the harmonies and in the texts about love, homesickness, pain and joy. The music draws inspiration from Portugal's former colonies, especially Brazil, which is further mixed with local Portuguese folk music and woven together with various poetic traditions. Strongly rooted in Portuguese culture, often linked to "saudade", the Portuguese melancholy, and rooted in times of poverty and suffering, fado has become part of the country's and population's identity.
